Born in Mumbai on 14 September 1990, Suryakumar hails from a family originally from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. His early exposure to cricket came under the guidance of his paternal uncle, Vinod Kumar Yadav, in Varanasi. His formal cricketing education started at the BARC colony in Mumbai, under the mentorship of Ashok Kamat. Suryakumar continued to hone his skills at the prestigious Elf Vengsarkar Academy, which was founded by former international cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar.
